MARSHALL, Texas - Sophomore forward
Milijan Pandurevic's goal in the 65th minute pushed the Texas Wesleyan
men's soccer team past East Texas Baptist 2-1, Friday afternoon.
"The heat really affected both
teams today," head coach Steve Jones said. "We played
a lot of players and we had a good overall effort by the entire
team."
ETBU (0-1) took the opening lead when
Ephraim Armas scored an unassisted goal in the 30th minute.
The Rams (2-0) fought back with a
goal of their own in the 38th minute when sophomore midfielder Nathan
Mutchler put one past the Tiger goalkeeper on an assist from freshman
sweeper Brad Egan to tie the game, 1-1.
The two teams traded scoring chances
for the first 20 minutes of the second half until Pandurevic scored
the game-winner off of a pass from sophomore midfielder Jose Melendez.
Steven Deering, the Texas Wesleyan
goalkeeper, kept the game close with five saves and allowed the
Rams to pull the game out.
"We played good defense today,"
Jones said. "We just held onto to the ball too long and weren't
passing as well as we should. We missed too many scoring opportunities,
but did enough to get the job done."
The Rams will be back in action Wednesday
at Martin Field when they host McMurry at 5 p.m.
