MARSHALL, Texas - Sophomore goalkeeper
Katrina Fishback had 14 saves to lead the Texas Wesleyan women's
soccer team to a 4-3 victory over East Texas Baptist Friday afternoon.
"Our offensive was there and
we had some great runs on goal," head coach Steve Jones said.
"We still need to work on our team defense and limit the opposing
teams' scoring chances."
ETBU (0-1) starting the scoring in
the 22nd minute, when Kelly Hendley scored on a pass from Janna
Wilson to put the Tigers up 1-0.
Texas Wesleyan (2-0) struck back with
two goals from sophomore forward Jessica Carrion in the 38th and
39th minute to retake the lead, 2-1, going into halftime.
In the second half, junior midfielder
Crystal Pena assisted on a goal by freshman sweeper Heather Fowler
in the 47th minute and scored a goal of her own in the 71st minute,
on an assist by senior forward Uduma Ogidi to increase the Lady
Ram lead to 4-1.
The Tigers made interesting with two
goals down the stretch by Wilson and Tory Mills to cut the lead
to 4-3. They sent numerous shots on goal, but Fishback kept the
score in Texas Wesleyan's favor with save after save.
"Kat came up big for us today
with a lot of key saves," Jones said. "She played terrific
and led us to victory."
The Lady Rams will be back in action
Wednesday, at Martin Field when they host McMurry at 3 p.m.
