FORT WORTH, Texas - The Texas
Wesleyan volleyball defeated Texas A&M International, 29-31,
30-17, 30-16, 30-17, on the strength of junior Cortney Johansen's
55 assists Friday night, at Sid Richardson Gymnasium.
After losing the first game, Texas
Wesleyan (2-0, 1-0 RRAC) kicked it up a notch and won the final
three games of the match convincingly.
"The girls showed some fight
tonight," head coach Rick Johansen said. "They didn't
quit after that first game. They sucked it up and came back strong."
Sophomore Rachel Loftin led the Lady
Rams with 21 kills, 17 of them coming in the final three games.
Junior Nicky Davis chipped in with 13 kills and junior Tiffany Porterfield
led the Lady Rams with eight total blocks.
Sophomore Allyson Gaudi had a team-high
20 digs.
TAMIU (0-1, 0-1 RRAC) was led by junior
Jessica Vargas who had 13 kills.
The Lady Rams will back in action
Thursday, when they travel to take on Texas A&M-Commerce at
7 p.m.
