WAXAHACHIE, Texas - Sophomore
Nathan Mutchler's goal in the 17th minute would be all Texas Wesleyan
would need as they defeated Southwest Assemblies of God, 3-0, Saturday
evening in Red River Athletic Conference action.
"Our possession was excellent tonight,"
head coach Steve Jones said. "We moved the ball around and
controlled the tempo of the match."
The Rams (4-1, 1-0 RRAC) began the scoring
with Mutchler's goal from 18 yards out.
Sophomore Travis Mauldin added the second
goal of the game in the 31st minute on a breakaway, when he beat
the keeper one-on-one to give Texas Wesleyan a 2-0, lead.
Freshman Christian Villasenor capped off
the scoring in the match in the 81st minute, tapping a one-timer
from sophomore Jose Melendez to make the final score, 3-0.
Texas Wesleyan outshot the Lions, 16-5.
"We couldn't put them away until the
very end," Jones said. "We still need to work on a lot
of things. Especially with stiffer competition to follow."
The Rams will be back in action Wednesday,
when they host Oklahoma City at 5 p.m.
