OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. - The Texas Wesleyan golf team finished day one of the UC Ferguson All-College Classic in third place.
     
     The Rams (288-301-589) are 19 shots behind tournament leader and host Oklahoma City University (284-286-570) after the first two rounds of play. Oklahoma city won the national championship last season.
     
     "We played pretty solid the first round this morning," head coach Kevin Millikan said. "We missed some opportunities in the afternoon round and fell out of second place. It is our first tournament and we are still working out some kinks. I look for us to settle down for the last round and hopefully make up ground on the first place team."

     The Rams were in second place after the morning round, shooting a team total of 288, which was two shots ahead of Southern Nazarene and only four shots behind Oklahoma City.

     Texas Wesleyan struggled a little in the afternoon round, firing a 301 to drop into third place, one shot behind Southern Nazarene.

     Leading the way for the Rams was freshman Scott Sikes, who posted a 70-74-144, two-over-par score. The Irving, Texas, native, currently sits in a tie for sixth place, two shots off of the lead.

     "Scott is playing great for it being his first collegiate tournament," Millikan said. "He handled the pressure well. Hopefully he can continue his steady play tomorrow."

     The Rams will wrap up the tournament tomorrow with the third and final round.
