OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. - The Texas
Wesleyan golf team finished tied for second in the UC Ferguson All-College
Classic Tuesday afternoon at Lincoln Park West Golf Club.
"Today was an extremely difficult
day for golf," head coach Kevin Millikan said. "I was
proud of our guys because they hung in there and held their own
against some stiff competition and strong winds."
The Rams (288-301-306-895) finished the
tournament tied for second with Southern Nazarene (290-298-307-895).
Texas Wesleyan had trailed by one stroke going into the final round.
Tournament host, and defending national
champion Oklahoma City (284-286-297-867) took home the title, winning
by 28 strokes.
Individually for the Rams, freshman Scott
Sikes finished fifth, firing a 75 on the final day for a three-day
total of 219 (six-over-par).
"Scott had an excellent tournament,"
Millikan said. "He competed well against some good players.
He should win his share of tournaments in the future."
Also for Texas Wesleyan, junior Euan McIntosh
finished tied for 16th with a 12-over-par, 225, sophomore Reino
Deetlefs finished tied for 20th with a 14-over-par, 227, and junior
Justin Ward fired a 15-over-par, 228, to tie for 25th. Sophomore
Chris Pena rounded out the scoring, shooting a 19-over-par, 232,
to tie for 40th.
The Rams will be back in action Monday,
when they host the Texas Wesleyan JV Invitational at the Meadowbrook
Golf Club.
