FORT WORTH, Texas - Oklahoma City
scored three goals off of 10 shots to defeat Texas Wesleyan, 3-1,
Wednesday afternoon at Martin Field.
Oklahoma City (2-2-2) took the opening
lead in the 26th minute, when Michael Wright one-timed a header
past Ram goalkeeper Steven Deering, off of a pass from Chris Wright.
Will Cunningham also received an assist on the play.
The Stars increased their lead to two goals
when Owen Lyon put one in the back of the net off of a pass from
Sean Dugan in the 53rd minute.
"Our team defense was not there today,"
head coach Steve Jones said. "They beat us to the ball and
out hustled us."
Texas Wesleyan (4-2) cut into the Star
lead with a goal from freshman Christian Villasenor. The forward
tapped a one-timer from sophomore Rene Mercado into the net in the
74th minute.
Oklahoma City came right back and put the
game away in the 82nd minute when Matt Williams sent a bicycle kick
from 15 yards out over Deering to increase the Star lead to 3-1.
"You have got to hand it to Oklahoma
City," Jones said. "They got an early lead and never let
us back into the game. They are a quality team."
Oklahoma City outshot the Rams, 10-6.
The Rams will be back in action Saturday,
when they host conference-rival Wiley College at 2 p.m.
