FORT WORTH, Texas - Three
members of the Texas Wesleyan volleyball team were awarded Red River
Athletic Conference players of the week on Tuesday morning.
Junior Allyson Gaudi, a sophomore libero
from Colleyville, Texas, was named defensive specialist of the week,
as she averaged 5.27 digs per game on the defensive side for the
Lady Rams. Gaudi helped lift the Lady Rams to a 5-0 week in which
they didn't lose a single game. She recorded 30 digs (10.0 per game)
against JCC and 16 (5.3 per game) against Southeastern Oklahoma
State University. Gaudi was also named NAIA Region VI defensive
specialist of the week for her efforts.
Junior Tiffany Porterfield, a middle blocker
from Burleson, Texas, was selected as co-player of the week. Porterfield
piled up 67 kills in 105 total attempts with only 10 errors (.543
hitting percentage). She also racked up 11 aces, 16 digs and 12
blocks on the week. Against Texas College, she had 20 kills in 24
total attempts with just one error (.792). She reached double-digits
in kills in three other matches. Texas Wesleyan is now 8-2 on the
season.
Rounding out the awards was junior Cortney
Johansen. Johansen, a setter from Colleyville, Texas, was selected
as co-setter of the week. She was pivotal in Texas Wesleyan's 5-0
week with 198 assists (13.2 per game). She topped the 40-assist
mark in all but one contest including a high of 45 against Texas
College. She added 43 against Jarvis Christian College (Texas) and
41 against Bacone College (Okla.).
The Lady Rams will be back in action Friday
at the Sid Richardson Gymnasium when they host conference-rival
UT-Permian Basin at 7 p.m.
