FORT WORTH, Texas - Sophomore
Jessica Carrion scored twice to lead Texas Wesleyan to a 3-1 victory
over Mary-Hardin Baylor Tuesday afternoon at Martin Field.
Texas Wesleyan (6-3) opened the scoring
in the 22nd minute with Carrion picking up the goal on an assist
from junior Jessica Elder to put the Lady Rams up, 1-0.
The Lady Rams picked up their second goal
off of an own goal by the Lady Crusaders. Junior Cristal Pena received
credit for the goal in the 26th minute.
Mary-Hardin Baylor (1-6) fought back with
a goal of its own in the 32nd minute. Nichelle Almendarez scored
on a penalty kick to cut the lead to 2-1.
In the second half, Texas Wesleyan put
the match away as Carrion scored her second goal of the afternoon
in the 89th minute on a breakaway. Sophomore Jessica Killen received
credit for the assist.
"The girls played a decent match today,
but there are still some things we need to work on," head coach
Steve Jones said. "Our defense was solid for the most part.
We just are not finishing plays on offense."
Carrion leads the team with 14 goals on
the season.
Texas Wesleyan will be back in action when
they travel to take on St. Gregory's at 2 p.m.
