BETHANY, Texas. - The Texas Wesleyan
volleyball team swept a pair of matches against Mid America Nazarene,
3-0, and tournament host Southern Nazarene, 3-1.
The Lady Rams (15-3) swept Mid America
Nazarene, 30-24, 30-14, 30-21, early Saturday morning.
Texas Wesleyan took the opening two games
on the strength of a team hitting percentage of .317 in game one
and .440 in game two. The Lady Rams closed out the match in game
three hitting .237 as a team.
Junior Tiffany Porterfield led Texas Wesleyan
with 13 kills, while junior Nicky Davis chipped in 11. Junior Cortney
Johansen dished out 31 assists and sophomore Susan Taylor produced
10 digs, while sophomore Allyson Gaudi and junior Kat Williams added
eight kills apiece.
In the last match of the day, Texas Wesleyan
took out tournament-host Southern Nazarene in four games, 30-27,
30-24, 23-30, 30-26.
Sophomore Rachel Loftin led the Lady Rams
with 21 kills, while Davis, Porterfield and freshman Sara Southerland
all tallied 12 kills apiece. Johansen was at it again as she dished
out 53 assists and also had four blocks.
Taylor led the Lady Rams again with 22
digs and Gaudi finished with 16 digs.
With the victory, Texas Wesleyan finished
the tournament in second place.
Texas Wesleyan returns to action Friday
when they host conference foes Wiley College at 1 p.m. and Bacone
College at 7 p.m.
