FORT WORTH, Texas. - After sweeping
both matches Friday, the Texas Wesleyan volleyball team defeated
Texas College, 3-0, and Jarvis Christian College, 3-0, in Red River
Conference play Saturday afternoon at the Sid Richardson Gymnasium.
Texas Wesleyan (19-3, 14-1 RRAC) took the
first match of the day against Texas College, 30-10, 30-12, 30-9.
Sophomore Rachel Loftin led the Lady Rams
with 15 kills and added three blocks and five aces. Junior Tiffany
Porterfield chipped in 11 kills with only one error. Junior Cortney
Johansen led the team with 41 assists.
Against Jarvis Christian College, Texas
Wesleyan kept its winning streak alive with a 30-14, 30-21, 30-10
victory. The Lady Rams have now won seven matches in a row.
Loftin led the way for the Lady Rams again
posting 18 kills and three aces. Freshman Sara Southerland added
seven kills for Texas Wesleyan and Cortney Johansen dished out 40
assists.
"We played well all weekend,"
head coach Rick Johansen said. "The girls passed the ball well
and finished their attacks. We just need to work out a few kinks
before next weekend's matches."
Texas Wesleyan returns to action Friday
when they host conference-leader Houston Baptist at 7 p.m. Houston
Baptist defeated the Lady Rams earlier in the season, 3-0, in Houston.
