FORT WORTH, Texas- Texas Wesleyan
scored six goals off of 20 shots to defeat UT-Permian Basin, 6-1,
Saturday afternoon in Red river Conference play at Martin Field.
Texas Wesleyan (11-5-1, 5-1-1 RRAC) scored
two goals right out of the gate in the seventh and eighth minutes.
Sophomore Dejan Paripovic and freshman Christian Villasenor scored
the two goals with sophomore Rene Mercado and Gerardo Avelar receiving
credit for the assists respectively.
Villasenor scored again in the 35th minute
ona give-and-go from Mercado to put the Rams ahead, 3-0, at halftime.
The two goals were Villasenor's 22nd and 23rd of the season, which
breaks the school record for goals in a season. The previous record
was 21, held by Jeff Henderson in 1989.
In the second half, the Rams poured it
on getting two goals from sophomore Travis Mauldin and a goal from
Avelar, to push the final margin to 6-1.
UT-Permian Basin (7-9, 3-4 RRAC) scored
a late goal in the 71st minute.
Texas Wesleyan returns to action Tuesday
when they travel to take on conference-foe Huston-Tillotson at 3
p.m.
