HOBBS, N.M. - The Texas Wesleyan
women's soccer team's season came to end Tuesday afternoon when
they were defeated by College of the Southwest, 2-0, in the semifinals
of the Red River Athletic Conference tournament.
College of the Southwest (13-6-1) opened
the scoring in the 18th minute when Kara Dionne knock one from 20
yards out past Texas Wesleyan goalkeeper Katrina Fishback, to put
the Lady Mustangs ahead, 1-0.
The Lady Ram defense held tight and kept
the match close, while their offense had a couple of near misses
early.
In the second half College of the Southwest
put the game away in the 82nd minute when Sarah Lapchak scored from
25 yards out for the final margin.
"We had a couple of chances early
in the game that could have changed the outcome, but we couldn't
capitalize," head coach Steve Jones said. "The girls played
hard for the entire 90 minutes and I am really proud of them. They
didn't give up."
The Lady Rams finish the season with a
10-9 record. They end their season in the semifinal round of the
conference tournament.
"We got as far as we did last season,"
Jones said. "We finished with a winning record for the second
consecutive season with a tougher schedule this year. That is something
to be proud of."
