FORT WORTH, Texas - Junior Tiffany
Porterfield had 15 kills to lead Texas Wesleyan past Texas A&M-Commerce,
30-22, 31-29, 22-30, 30-24, Wednesday evening at the Sid Richardson
Gymnasium.
Texas Wesleyan (26-4) took the opening
two games on the strength of six kills and two aces from Porterfield.
TAMU-Commerce (14-16) took game three behind
the hitting of Amy Wallace, who had six kills.
The Lady Rams finished off the Lady Lions
in game four as sophomore Rachel Loftin had five kills.
Loftin finished the match with 15 kills
and five blocks, while junior Cortney Johansen dished out 45 assists.
Freshman Sara Southerland had nine kills and four digs. Sophomore
Susan Taylor led all Lady Rams with 14 digs and junior Kat Williams
chipped in 13 digs.
"After a rough outing last night the
girls stepped it up and beat a good team," head coach Rick
Johansen said. "We got a lead and didn't let up. This is one
of the best matches we have played in awhile."
The victory ran the Lady Rams' winning
streak to seven matches.
The Lady Rams will be back in action Friday
when they host conference-rival Paul Quinn College at 7 p.m. at
the Sid Richardson Gymnasium. That match has been designated as
Parent's Night. Admission is free.
