November 15, 2003

     FORT WORTH, Texas -
Senior David Johnson's 12 points and nine rebounds weren't enoughas Texas Wesleyan fell to Dillard, 70-53, Saturday evening at the Sid Richardson Gymnasium.

Texas Wesleyan (0-2) shot a dismal 30 percent (19-64) from the field and 47 percent (14-30) from the charity stripe.

In the first half, the Rams opened the game on a 15-6 run, capped off by a jumper by junior Jaison Frazier at the 15:15 mark.

Dillard (6-0) fought back with a streak of its own. The Blue Devils went a 22-6 run over the next 11 minutes to take a 28-21 lead with 4:12 to play in the first half. Jamaal Jones led the way with four treys.

Texas Wesleyan closed the gap in the final four minutes on the strength of two lay-ups by juniors Joey Gladney and Albert Talley, and two free throws by sophomore Brad Schilder. The Rams went into the half down only three, 30-27.

In the second half, Dillard pushed the lead to 10, at 48-38, with 11:28 to play in the game, as Jones poured in six more points.

The Rams would cut the deficit to four, at 52-48, with 6:47 to play with Gladney leading the way with four points.

However, that is as close as Texas Wesleyan would get, as Dillard closed out the game on an 18-5 run, which included two more treys by Jones.

Jones led the Blue Devils with 24 points, shooting 7-of-14 from the field, including 6-of-9 from behind the arc. Dillard had three more players score in double figures. Eric Bell and Alfredo Ott both chipped in 11 points, while Ivory Clark added 10 points.

Fraizer had a double-double for the Rams, tallying 10 points and 10 rebounds. Gladney finished the evening with 11 points and six rebounds. Schilder led the Rams with three assists.

The Rams will be back in action Tuesday when they host St. Gregory's at 7:30 p.m. at the Sid Richardson Gymnasium.  The match can be heard live on www.ramsports.net.
