TULSA, Okla. - Junior Kashae
Townsend had 14 points, 11 rebounds and four steals to lead Texas
Wesleyan past Dallas Christian, 77-44, in the final game of the
Rhema Bible Classic.
Texas Wesleyan (2-1) did not shoot well
in the first half only going 9-of-24 from the field (37.5 percent)
but still took the lead at the half 32-24.
In the second half, the Lady Rams turned
up the pressure and outscored the Lady Crusaders, 45-20, on the
strength of 45.7 percent shooting. Townsend led the way tallying
nine points in the final period.
"Kashae is doing everything we ask
of her," head coach Stacy Francis said. "Her attitude
and work ethic are phenomenal. She is a real leader on the court."
Overall, Texas Wesleyan shot 42.3 percent
(25-59) from the field and an improved 66.7 percent (12-18) from
the charity stripe. The Lady Rams also shot 3-of-9 from behind the
arc.
Also leading the way for Texas Wesleyan
were freshman Natassia Brown, who registered 11 points on 5-of-6
shooting, along with five rebounds and junior LaRhonda Hunter who
dished out four assists.
"I am really proud of the girls,"
Francis said. "We made adjustments at halftime and everyone
of them came out ready to play the second half. They all stepped
up today."
Townsend and freshman guard Stephanie
Sewell both were named to the all-tournament team, with Townsend
also being named the tournament's most valuable player.
The Lady Rams will be back in action Tuesday,
November 18, when they host St. Gregory's at 5:30 p.m. at the Sid
Richardson Gymnasium.
