Rams win third straight, defeat Sterling, 81-76
November 22, 2003

STERLING, Kan. - Sophomore Jaison Fraizer hit 14-of-15 free throws in the second half on his way to 34 points to lead Texas Wesleyan over Sterling College, 81-76, Saturday evening at the Pizza Hut Warrior Classic.

Fraiser connected on 8-of-11 shots from the field and 18-of-20 from the charity stripe. The Yonkers, N.Y., native, also had three assists and one steal to lead the Rams to their third straight victory.

"Jaison stepped up and played a gutsy game for us tonight," head coach Terry Waldrop said. "He is a very versatile player who plays several positions for us. He came up big when we needed him to."

Sterling (0-5) opened the game on a 16-10 scoring run, on the strength of seven points by Patrick Johnson. The Rams had already turned the ball over five times at 8:48 mark.

Texas Wesleyan (3-2) fought back with a 14-9 run to close the gap to one, 25-24, with 49 seconds to go in the first half.

A trey by Michael Moncreif and a layup by Chris Schneider, to close out the first half, gave the Warriors a six-point lead at the break.

In the second half, Sterling pushed its lead to nine, 44-35, when Jeremy Lucas nailed a three-pointer at the 16:03 mark.

The Rams then rallied off nine straight points behind some hot shooting to tie the game, 44-44, with 13:28 left in the game. The Rams shot 60 percent (18-30) from the field in the second half.

Texas Wesleyan increased its lead to 10 at the 3:56 mark. Sophomore Brad Schilder had eight points, while Fraizer added five points to make it 66-56.

Down the stretch, Sterling would make some big shots, but Fraizer countered by making 11-of-12 free throws in the last two minutes.

Texas Wesleyan shot 48 percent (28-59) from the floor and 29 percent (4-14) from behind the arc. The Rams also shot a season-high 72 percent (21-29) from the free-throw line.

Sterling countered by shooting 50 percent (26-52) from the floor and 50 percent (8-16) from three-point land. The Warriors also shot 62 percent (16-26) from the charity stripe.

The Rams will be back in action Monday, when they travel to St. Gregory's at 8 p.m. Texas Wesleyan defeated the Cavaliers, 91-70, on Nov. 18, in Fort Worth.
