FORT WORTH, Texas - Junior
Shayla Coleman registered 24 points, five rebounds and four steals
to lead Texas Wesleyan over Huston-Tillotson, 90-71, Monday evening
at the Sid Richardson Gymnasium.
Huston-Tillotson (4-5, 3-2 RRAC) came out
strong, taking a 22-15 lead with 8:52 left in the first
half. Felisha Drake led Huston-Tillotson with eight points during
the stretch.
Texas Wesleyan (7-4, 4-1 RRAC) outscored
Huston-Tillotson, 29-11 down the stretch in the first half to take
a 44-33 lead at the break. Coleman connected on three shots from
behind the arc and had 13 points during the run.
In the second half, a trey by Jameisha
Chatman at the 18:16 mark cut Texas Wesleyan's lead to eight.
Texas Wesleyan increased its lead to 19,
with 6:07 remaining in the game. The Lady Rams went on a 27-16 run
during the stretch. Freshman Stephanie Sewell had 11 points during
the run.
Texas Wesleyan held steady down the stretch,
with Coleman scoring five points and junior Amanda Williams and
Walker added four points each, as the Lady Rams won its third straight
conference game.
Coleman finished the evening 4-of-4 from
the three-point line and a perfect 6-of-6 from the charity stripe.
Walker had 20 points, 11 rebounds and five
assists, while freshman Sewell added 11 points and four assists.
Texas Wesleyan shot 60 percent (33-55)
from the field and 83 percent (5-6) from the three-point line. The
Lady Rams also shot 59 percent (19-32) from the charity stripe.
Huston-Tillotson shot 40 percent (21-52)
from the floor and 30 percent (7-23) from behind the arc. The Lady
Rams also shot 73 percent from the free-throw line.
Texas Wesleyan outrebounded Huston-Tillotson,
40-24. They also had 25 assists as a team.
Texas Wesleyan returns to action Tuesday
