FORT WORTH, Texas - Junior
Kashae Townsend posted 20 points and 18 rebounds to lead Texas Wesleyan
past Texas College, 66-41, Saturday evening in Red River Conference
play.
Townsend also posted five assists, three
blocks and two steals to complete one of the best all-around games
in Lady Ram history.
Up by five at half, Texas Wesleyan outscored
the Lady Steers, 37-17, in the second half. Townsend scored 11 of
her 20 points and registered 13 rebounds. The Lady Rams held Texas
College to 14 percent shooting (5-36) in the second half. The Lady
Steers also went 0-11 from behind the arc.
Texas Wesleyan (9-4, 5-1 RRAC) opened the
game on an 11-3 run led by Townsend and senior Ashley Walker's four
points a piece to take an eight-point lead at the 15:31 mark of
the first half.
Texas College (1-15, 1-5 RRAC) fought back
to cut the lead to one, using a 12-5 run sparked by Deb Thornton's
four points.
The Lady Rams increased their lead to 29-24
at halftime. Townsend and freshman Stephanie Sewell led the way
scoring three points each down the stretch.
Texas Wesleyan shot 33 percent (22-66)
from the floor and 29 percent (2-7) from the three-point line. The
Lady Rams also shot 51 percent (20-39) from the charity stripe.
Texas Wesleyan held Texas College to 21
percent (12-57) from the field and eight percent (1-13) from behind
the arc. The Lady Steers also shot 47 percent (16-34) from the free-throw
line.
Walker finished the evening with 11 points,
seven rebounds and two steals for the Lady Rams and freshman Nastassia
Brown tallied 10 rebounds.
Texas Wesleyan returns to action Monday
when they host conference-foe Paul Quinn at 5:30 p.m. The game can
