MUSKOGEE, Okla. - Senior Wesley Haynes had 18 points and
six rebounds but that was not enough as Bacone College defeated
Texas Wesleyan, 81-71, Saturday evening in Red River conference
play.
Texas Wesleyan (10-8, 6-2 RRAC) turned
the ball over 16 times and shot a dismal 46 percent from the free-throw
line. The Rams had won six straight conference games before tonight.
Bacone College (7-10, 4-3 RRAC)
started out the game hot from the outside, nailing five treys to
take a 23-13 lead at the 11:30 mark of the first half.
Texas Wesleyan fought back to cut
the lead to three at 30-27, with 6:45 remaining in the half. Freshman
Aaron Smith came off of the bench to spark the Rams with two treys.
However, the Warriors pushed the
lead to 12 at the break, as the Rams turned the ball over four times
in the last two minutes.
In the second half, Bacone's Ramone
Stewart three pointer gave the Warriors a 17-point lead with 14:31
left on the clock.
The Rams cut the lead to eight with
6:07 remaining on a layup by Haynes. That is as close as Texas Wesleyan
would come as Bacone hit its free throws down the stretch.
Texas Wesleyan shot 42 percent (28-67)
from the field and 28 percent (5-18) from behind the arc.
Sophomore Brian Carter finished
with eight rebounds and four blocks in his first game as a Ram.

junior Anthony Martin led the Rams with seven assists.
Bacone College shot 43 percent (28-65)
from the floor and 45 percent (9-20) from the three-point line.
The warriors also shot 76 percent (16-21) from the charity stripe.
The Rams will try and regroup on
Monday at 7:30 p.m., when they travel to take on conference-rival
Langston.
