Lady Rams grin out 65-50 victory over Bacone College
January 17, 2004

MUSKOGEE, Okla. - Junior Kashae Townsend posted 12 points and nine rebounds to lead Texas Wesleyan past Bacone College, 65-50, Saturday evening in Red River conference play.

Five of Townsend's nine rebounds were offensive. The Hillsboro, Texas native, also had three steals and three assists in 33 minutes of play.

Bacone College (2-15, 0-7 RRAC) took an early two-point lead on a three-pointer by Kelly Quillmann at the 11:35 mark of the first half. The Lady Warriors then turned the ball over three straight possessions.

Texas Wesleyan (11-4, 7-1 RRAC) roared back with a 15-2 run over the next five minutes sparked by six points from junior Shayla Coleman and five points by junior Johnna Flemmons.

The Lady Warriors cut the lead to six with 1:42 remaining in the half on the strength of four points from Angie Massengale.

The Lady Rams pushed the lead to 10 with two free throws by Townsend and a jumper by sophomore Kori Yates.

The Achilles Heel for Bacone in the first half was ball-control, as it turned the ball over 12 times.

In the second half, the Lady Rams kept the pressure, as Bacone could only get as close as nine points. Texas Wesleyan increased its lead to 15 points canning crucial free throws down the stretch.

Texas Wesleyan shot 36 percent (23-64) from the floor and 28 percent (5-18) from behind the arc. The Lady Rams also shot 61 percent (14-23) from the free-throw line.

Bacone College shot 32 percent (17-53) from the field and 17 percent (4-23) from the three-point line. The Lady Warriors also shot 60 percent (12-20) from the charity stripe.

The Lady Warriors also turned the ball over 20 times compared to only 10 by the Lady Rams.

The Lady Rams will be back in action Monday at 5:30 p.m., when they travel to take on conference-rival Langston.
