FORT WORTH, Texas - Junior
Shayla Coleman totaled 17 points to lead Texas Wesleyan past Wiley
College, 67-60, Monday evening at the Sid Richardson Gymnasium.
In a game that featured 67 turnovers between
the two teams, Texas Wesleyan (15-9, 11-6 RRAC) held the Lady Wildcats
to 37 percent shooting.
Wiley College (9-15, 7-9 RRAC) opened up
the game on a 16-12 run to take a four-point lead at the 13:11 mark
of the first half.
The Rams fought back going on a 26-14 run
to end the half and take a 38-30 lead at the break. Coleman led
the way scoring 12 first-half points.
In the second half, the Lady Rams increased
their lead to as many as 14, at 58-44, with 5:57 remaining in the
game.
Wiley College cut the lead to six but could
not get over the hump as the Lady Rams won their third game in a
row.
Texas Wesleyan shot 39 percent (20-52)
from the floor and 64 percent (27-42) from the free-throw line.
The Lady Rams also went 0-5 from behind the arc.
Wiley College shot 37 percent (23-62) from
the field and 57 percent (13-23) from the charity stripe. The Lady
Wildcats also shot 10 percent (1-10) from the three-point line.
Junior Kashae Townsend, playing in her
first game back after missing the last four with an injury, posted
11 points and eight rebounds off of the bench.
Texas Wesleyan will be back in action Thursday,
when they host conference-rival Jarvis Christian in a make-up game
at 5:30 p.m. The two teams were supposed to meet Saturday but were
unable because of snow in the area.
