FORT WORTH, Texas - The Texas
Wesleyan softball team swept its season-opening doubleheader against
LeTourneau Wednesday afternoon at Sycamore Park.
The Lady Rams (2-0) took the first game
of the doubleheader, 11-3, and finished off the Ladyjackets, 10-2,
in the second game.
In game one, freshman Tara Sharp (1-0)
allowed three runs on six hits, while striking out three in six
innings of work.
Freshman Amanda Milam led the Lady Rams
going 2-for-4 with three runs scored and five RBI's. The Wolfforth,
Texas native, hit back-to-back home runs in the fourth and sixth
innings.
LeTourneau (0-3) scored three runs off
of six hits, but its two errors in the field proved costly, as Texas
Wesleyan scored four unearned runs in the first inning on their
way to the run-rule victory.
In game two, junior Kristin DiFrancesco
started for the Lady Rams. She allowed one run on three hits, while
striking out two batters in three innings of work.
Junior Danah Merck led the Lady Rams going
3-for-4 with one run scored and three RBI's.
LeTourneau could only manage five hits
off of DiFrancesco and freshman Rachel Lamont. Lamont (1-0) pitched
three innings, allowing two runs off of two hits, while striking
out two batters to pick up the victory for the Lady Rams.
Texas Wesleyan will be back in action Thursday,
when they travel to take on Southeastern Oklahoma State in a doubleheader
beginning at 2 p.m.
