| WICHITA,
Kan. - Sophomore Reino Deetlefs and freshman Scott Sikes both shot an one-under-par
71 to lead Texas Wesleyan to a first-place finish after the opening round in the
Jet Classic at Reflection Ridge Country Club Monday afternoon. Texas
Wesleyan (287) leads Tabor College and Oklahoma Christian by 14 strokes as both
teams shot a 301. Deetlefs and Sikes are
both tied for second place, only three strokes behind tournament-leader Tommie
Harrel of Tabor College, who fired a one-under 68. Sikes
had been four-under through 16 holes, but had a double-bogey on the 17th and a
bogey on the 18th to finish with a 71.
Also
competing for the Rams was freshman Dan Hahn (72) who is tied for fourth, junior
Justin Ward (73) who is tied for sixth, along with senior Ryan Craig (74) who
is also tied for 11th. "As a team everyone
played well today," head coach Kevin Millikan said. "A couple of guys
struggled early in their round but showed some mental toughness by finishing strong.
This is the kind of play that I expect from these guys. We get better with every
round we play." The Rams will be back
in action for the second and final round Tuesday.
