FORT WORTH, Texas - Freshman Maria Morones was selected as co-pitcher of the week by the Red River Athletic Conference Tuesday.

     Morones, a freshman right-hander from Weatherford, Texas, pitched the first no-hitter of her career in her only start of the week. She led Texas Wesleyan to an 8-0 win over Lake Erie College by striking out three with no walks in six innings. Only a hit-batsman prevented her from throwing a perfect game. Morones is now 2-3 with a 1.87 ERA on the season.

     "Maria has been a pleasant surprise for us so far this year," head coach David Barrientes said. "She has pitched really well and has exceeded our expectations at this point in the season."

     The Lady Rams will be back in action Tuesday when the travel to take on Texas Women's University in Denton. The twilight doubleheader is scheduled for 5 p.m.
