     ARLINGTON, Texas -
Sophomore Reino Deetlefs shot a tournament-best, 67 (5-under par) to lead tournament-host Texas Wesleyan to a second place finish after the first round of the Texas Intercollegiate on Monday afternoon at the Tierra Verde Golf Course in Arlington, Texas.

Deetlefs shot a four-under par, 32 on the front nine, and finished with a one-under par, 35 on the back nine. The Randburg, South Africa native, fired six birdies and only one bogey on the day.

"He put together another solid round after winning last week's tournament," head coach Kevin Millikan said. "He has been playing flawless golf and is making hardly any mistakes. He has only one bogey in his last two rounds. We knew he was capable of this and he is starting to do it week in and week out."

Texas Wesleyan (288, even-par) is only two strokes behind tournament-leader Oklahoma Christian (286, two-under par).

Ram freshman Dan Hahn shot an even-par, 72, and is tied for ninth place.

"Dan has really made the most of his opportunity," Millikan said. "In team qualifying, Dan really earned his place on this team. He has really become a key part of this squad. All of his hard work is starting to pay off."

Freshman Scott Sikes (74, two-over par) is tied for 17th place, while junior Justin Ward (75, three-over par) is tied for 24th place and senior Ryan Craig (78, six-over par) is tied for 48th place.

"It is hard to say anything bad about an even-par round," Millikan said. "We played the course well today. Nine out of 10 times, even par wins the tournament. If a few guys can pick it up, we will have a good chance of winning."

Texas Wesleyan's JV squad is also competing in the tournament, as they fired a 302, 14-over par. They currently sit tied for eighth place with Northwood.

Competing for the JV squad were junior Euan McIntosh (70, two-under par) who is tied for fourth place, freshman Justin Smith (73, one-over par) who is tied for 13th place, freshman Will Woodring (76, four-over par) who is tied for 33rd, senior Mark Gonzalez (83, 11-over par) who is tied for 71st and freshman T.W. Aaron (84, 12-over par) who is tied for 74th.

The Rams will be back in action for the second and final round Tuesday. The varsity will begin teeing off at approximately 9:46 a.m., with the JV squad to begin at 9:06 a.m. from the 10th tee.
