WORTH, Texas - Texas Wesleyan senior Derek Armstrong was named Red River Athletic
Conference player of the week, while freshman Drew Jeffcoat was named by co-pitcher
of
the week by the conference. Jeffcoat shares the honor with Houston Baptist's Billy
Miskell.
Armstrong, a senior third baseman
from Fort Worth, drove in nine runs as TWU won all four of its games to run its
season record to 9-9. Armstrong reached base four times in the first game of the
week, a 17-2 victory over Howard Payne University (Texas), and he was 3-for-4
with four RBI in the second game of the series, a 16-3 win for Texas Wesleyan.
He also went 3-for-3 with three runs scored and three RBI in the second of two
wins against North Park College. For the four-game stretch, Armstrong was 9-of-13
at the plate (.692) with nine RBI, seven runs scored, three doubles and a triple.
Jeffcoat,
a freshman from Arlington, Texas, pitched five innings and surrendered only one
hit to defeat North Park, 6-0. He struck out five with no walks in the outing.
He now leads Texas Wesleyan with a 3-0 record and 0.95 ERA in 19.0 innings of
work. The newcomer has recorded 18 strikeouts in his last three starts.
Texas
Wesleyan will be back in action tomorrow when they host Waldorf College at LaGrave
Field. The single game is set for 2 p.m.
