FORT WORTH, Texas - The
Texas Wesleyan baseball pounded out 12 hits to defeat Paul Quinn, 9-2, Wednesday
at Sycamore Park. The victory gave the Rams the series victory as the two teams
split a doubleheader on Tuesday. Texas Wesleyan
(17-15, 4-2 RRAC) opened the scoring in the fourth inning, when right fielder
Travis Clifford and shortstop Corey Stansell both picked up RBI to put the Rams
ahead, 2-0.
Paul Quinn (6-10, 1-2 RRAC) cut
the deficit in half in the sixth inning, when first baseman James Redding singled
in third baseman Ricky Pargas to make the score, 2-1.
The
Rams added three runs in the sixth inning, when second baseman Eric Vaughn produced
a sacrifice fly, left fielder Jason Diaz singled in a run and designated hitter
Derek Armstrong scored on a balk by Tiger starting pitcher Dwayne Simmons to push
the Ram lead to
The Tigers fought back again
in the seventh when second baseman James Taylor doubled in a run off of Ram starting
pitcher Chris Bayuk to make the score, 5-2. In
the eighth inning, Texas Wesleyan put the game out of reach as they pushed across
four runs. The Rams received two of those runs courtesy of two bases loaded hit-by-pitches.
Bayuk
(1-2) picked up the victory for the Rams as he allowed two runs on six hits, while
walking two and striking out eight batters.
Stansell
and catcher Matt Putman both led Texas Wesleyan by going 3-for-4. Clifford led
the Rams with two RBI on the day.
Texas Wesleyan
will be back in action Friday when they travel to take on conference-rival Southwestern
Assemblies of God. First-pitch is set for 7 p.m. in Waxahachie, Texas.
