WAXAHACHIE, Texas - The Texas
Wesleyan baseball team used a strong pitching performance by sophomore Shea Harrison
and poured it on offensively to defeat Southwestern Assemblies of God, 16-6, Friday
evening in Red River Conference play.
Texas
Wesleyan (18-15, 5-2 RRAC) won the game by the 10-run rule, as it ended in the
eighth inning. The Rams were led by freshman Drew Jeffcoat who was 3-for-5 with
four RBI, while senior Eric Vaughn went 3-for-6 with four RBI as well. Senior
Derek Armstrong also chipped in, going 3-for-3 with two runs scored. Sophomore
Travis Clifford scored four runs for the Rams on the night.
"Our
guys came out to play tonight," head coach Mike Jeffcoat said. "We got
a lot of timely hits tonight. The guys are becoming really disciplined at the
plate."
Harrison (3-3) picked up the
victory allowing no runs on three hits, while walking one and striking out six
batters in five innings of work.
"We
got off to a rough start this season but the guys didn't panic," Jeffcoat
said. "They knew we were going to get better and they just kept working hard."
Texas
Wesleyan will wrap up the series Saturday when they take on conference-rival Southwestern
Assemblies of God. The doubleheader is set for 12 p.m. in Waxahachie, Texas at
the Waxahachie Sports Complex.
