ODESSA, Texas The Lady Rams started
conference play off on the right foot, taking a doubleheader from
conference rival UT-Permian Basin Saturday evening. Texas Wesleyan
took game one, 3-2, and finished off the Lady Falcons in game two,
8-2.
In game one, Lady Ram starting pitcher Tara Sharp (5-3) went seven
innings giving up two runs on seven hits while striking out six
batters. Junior Vanessa Urteaga led the offensive attack for Texas
Wesleyan (12-11, 2-0 RRAC) going 2-for-3 and scored two the teams
three runs. Junior Danah Merck also contributed going 2-for-4 with
a run scored.
In game two, freshman Maria Morones (4-5) pitched six strong innings
allowing two runs on four hits while striking out four batters.
Freshman Rachel Lamont pitched one inning in relief striking out
two batters.
Urteaga came within a homerun of hitting for the cycle in game two.
The Garden City, Kansas native, finished the day going 5-for-7 with
two RBI. Merck also finished the day going 5-for-8 with two RBI.
The Lady Rams will be back in action Tuesday
when host conference-rival Northwood University. The doubleheader
is scheduled for 2 p.m.
