FORT WORTH, Texas - The Texas Wesleyan softball team won both games of a doubleheader against conference-rival, Northwood University, Tuesday afternoon at Sycamore Park. The Lady Rams won hard fought games by the scores of 2-1 and 2-1.

In game one, Lady Ram starting pitcher Maria Morones pitched only three innings allowing one run on three hits while striking out three batters. Morones was replaced by freshman Tara Sharp (6-3) who finished the game allowing only one hit in four shutout innings while striking out six batters.

Texas Wesleyan (14-11, 4-0 RRAC) fell behind early when Lady Knight's Jamie Manning singled in a run in the second inning. The Lady Rams tied the game on an RBI single in the bottom of the sixth inning by centerfielder Kamie Lancaster to score sophomore Michelle Perez.

The Lady Rams took the first game on a game-winning, RBI double by Rachel Hampton. Lancaster also helped in the victory going 3-for-4 with a RBI.

"Northwood is a tough team," head coach David Barrientes said. "They stayed in the game until the very end."

In game two, first baseman Tara Sharp's RBI single in the bottom of the third inning put Texas Wesleyan on the board first. Lady Ram starting pitcher Rachel Lamont (3-2) threw seven strong innings allowing only one run on six hits while striking out two batters.

The Lady Knights (11-18, 2-4 RRAC) tied the game in the fourth inning on Jodie Wilcox's RBI single. Texas Wesleyan regained the lead on a Vanessa Urteaga single in the bottom of the fifth inning that scored right fielder Amanda Macuch.

"This team is coming together at the right time," Barrientes said. "The combination of great pitching and solid defense were the key to today's victories."

The Lady Rams will be back in action Friday, April 2nd, when they travel to take on Bacone College in conference play. The doubleheader is scheduled for 2 p.m.
