CEDAR HILL, Texas - The Texas
Wesleyan softball team split a doubleheader rival Northwood University
in conference play, Friday afternoon in Cedar Hill, Texas. The Lady
Rams lost a close first game, 2-1, and won the second game, 5-2.
In game one, Lady Ram starting pitcher
Tara Sharp (6-5) despite having a strong outing on the mound, the
Fort Worth, Texas native, suffered the loss. Sharp pitched six innings
allowing two runs on six hits while striking out five batters.
With Texas Wesleyan (15-14, 5-3 RRAC)
down 2-0 after the first inning, sophomore Jennifer Perez's RBI
triple in the sixth inning helped to close the gap to 2-1. But it
was not enough as the Lady Rams could only manage four hits for
the game.
In game two, Texas Wesleyan's offense
came alive as the team managed five runs off 13 hits. Starting pitcher,
Rachel Lamont (4-3), allowed only two runs on five hits while fanning
two batters in seven innings of work. The Lady Rams were led by
second baseman Danah Merck and Tara Sharp. Merck went 3-for-4 with
an RBI, and Sharp went 2-for-4 with an RBI.
The Lady Rams will be back in action
Friday afternoon when they travel to take on rival Houston Baptist
University in conference play. The doubleheader is scheduled for
1p.m.
