HOUSTON, Texas - The Texas Wesleyan
softball team lost both games of a doubleheader in conference play
to No.3 ranked Houston Baptist on Friday afternoon at Lady Husky
Field. The Lady Rams struggled offensively against superb pitching
by the Lady Huskies, losing both games by virtue of run-rule, 8-0
and 11-0.
In game one, Lady Ram Tara Sharp (6-6)
went six innings, giving up eight runs on 16 hits while walking
three batters. Sharp gave up a three-run homerun in the first inning
to Lady Husky, Morgan Anderson. Sharp also gave up a two-run homerun
to Katleyn Griffin in the bottom of the sixth that led Houston Baptist
(33-3, 10-0 RRAC) to a run-rule victory.
In game two, starting pitcher Rachel
Lamont (4-4) went 2.1 innings allowing 10 runs on six hits while
walking four and striking out one batter. Maria Morones relieved
Lamont after the Lady Huskies posted an 11-run third inning. Three
homeruns were allowed in that inning as Houston Baptist slapped
nine hits.
Texas Wesleyan (15-16, 5-5 RRAC) could
only manage one hit in their 8-0 loss in the first game, and scattered
three hits in the five inning, second game loss.
The Lady Rams will be back in action
Wednesday when host Texas Women's University. The doubleheader is
scheduled for 3 p.m.
