Texas Wesleyan struggles at the plate, drops doubleheader

     FORT WORTH, Texas -
The Texas Wesleyan softball team dropped both games of a doubleheader to No. 3 Houston Baptist, Friday afternoon at Sycamore Park.

     Texas Wesleyan (15-20, 5-7 RRAC) lost game one to Houston Baptist, 13-0, while the Lady Huskies (35-3, 12-0 RRAC) dropped the Lady Rams, 8-0 in the second game.

     Houston Baptist scored 10 runs in the first three innings on its way to pounding out 11 hits. Five of the 11 hits for the Lady Huskies were home runs. The Lady Rams were held to only two hits. First baseman Jennifer Perez and right fielder Amanda Macuch picked up the hits. Freshman Amanda Milam picked up the loss for the Lady Rams, allowing seven earned runs on four hits, while walking seven and striking out two batters in 2.2 innings of work.

     In game two, Houston Baptist had the hot bats out again, as they rallied off 13 hits, and held the Lady Rams to only five hits. Freshman Tara Sharp went the distance on the mound for Texas Wesleyan, allowing seven earned runs, while walking three and striking out two batters. Second baseman Danah Merck led the Lady Rams, going 2-for-3 with two singles.

     Texas Wesleyan will be back in action Sunday, when they host conference-rival Bacone College in a doubleheader beginning at 2 p.m. at Sycamore Park.
