Texas Wesleyan drops doubleheader in conference play

     FORT WORTH, Texas - The Texas Wesleyan softball team drop both games of a doubleheader to conference-rival, Bacone College, Sunday afternoon at Sycamore Park. The Lady Rams dropped the first game 7-2, and lost the second game by run-rule, 13-0.

     In game one, Texas Wesleyan starting pitcher Tara Sharp (6-9) threw seven innings allowing seven runs on 12 hits while striking out three batters. Bacone College (44-4-1, 16-2 RRAC) went ahead early, scoring three runs in the first two innings. Sharp threw four shutout innings after those first three runs.

     The Lady Rams cut the lead by one on center fielder Kamie Lancaster's RBI single in the of the third inning. Texas Wesleyan blew a great scoring opportunity in the bottom of the sixth with runners on second and third with no outs. The Lady Warriors added four more runs in the top of the seventh inning to put the game out of reach. Right fielder Amanda Macuch launched a solo shot in the bottom of the seventh, her second of the season, but it was too little, too late as the Lady Rams lost 7-2.

     In game two, starting pitcher Rachel Lamont (4-5) lasted only 4.1 innings allowing nine runs on 12 hits while walking one and striking out one batter. Lamont threw four strong innings of six hit ball before faulting in the fifth. The Lady Rams committed four errors in the fifth inning that contributed to an 11 run inning. Texas Wesleyan (17-22, 5-9 RRAC) managed to reach base only four times on the strength of two singles and two walks.

     The Lady Rams will be back in action Tuesday when they travel to take on conference-rival Texas College in a doubleheader. The first game is scheduled for 4 p.m.
