The Texas Wesleyan softball team got back on right track, Saturday afternoon at Cowgirl Field, winning both games against Hardin-Simmons in a doubleheader. The Lady Rams won the first game the score of 6-1, and won a close second game, 4-2.

In game one, Lady Ram starting pitcher Amanda Macuch (1-0), making her first start of the season, had a strong outing on the mound throwing seven innings and only allowing one run on eight hits while striking out two batters.

The Lady Rams (17-20) started the scoring off with an RBI double by second baseman Danah Merck. Merck finished the day 4-for-8 with three RBI. The score remained 1-0 through four innings until Texas Wesleyan put up three more runs in the top of the fifth inning. The Cowgirls of Hardin-Simmons managed to score a run in the bottom half of the inning on a RBI single by Jessica Stover with the bases loaded. Texas Wesleyan added a run in both the sixth and seventh innings on solo shots by shortstop Vanessa Urteaga and designated player Tara Sharp, each their first on the season, as Wesleyan went on to win, 6-1.

In game two, starting pitcher Amanda Milam (2-3) threw seven strong innings, allowing two runs off six hits while striking out five batters. Milam also scored two of the Lady Rams four runs.

Texas Wesleyan went ahead early when Urteaga scored on Cowgirl first baseman Sara Duke's fielding error in the first inning. Macuch's RBI double in the second and a Cowgirl passed ball that scored Sharp in the third put the Lady Rams up 3-0. Milam, who reached on a fielding error, scored on Rachel Hampton's sacrifice fly in the sixth inning. Hardin-Simmons (6-27-1) fought back, scoring two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning, but it wasn't enough as the Lady Rams held on to win 4-2.

The Lady Rams will be back in action Sunday when they host conference-rival, Bacone College in a doubleheader. The first game is scheduled for 2 p.m.
