FORT WORTH, TX: Texas Wesleyan University’s Shawndrika Courtney has been named Red River Athletic Conference women’s basketball Co-Player of the Week for the period of January 9-15. Courtney shared last week’s honor with Britni Robertson of Jarvis Christian College.
Courtney, a senior forward from Euless, Texas, scored 27 points and snared 19 rebounds in her first full game of action following a broken finger. She made 10-of-14 shots from the field and 7-of-14 from the free throw line to lift the Lady Rams past Texas A&M International University, 94-82. Courtney tied her career-high for rebounds and missed her best scoring output by one after only playing sparingly earlier in the week against Huston-Tillotson University.
Courtney’s strong play has carried into this week. She turned in her second consecutive double-double with 19 points and 12 rebounds in last night’s 70-60 win over UT-Permian Basin. Texas Wesleyan has moved up to second in the conference at 5-1, while increasing its season mark to 7-7.
Robertson, a junior guard/forward from Pasadena, Texas, averaged 19.3 points per game in a 2-1 week for the Lady Bulldogs. She made 21-of-33 field goal attempts (64.0%) including 13-of-21 three-pointers (62%) to go with 13 assists and six steals. In a win over Paul Quinn College (Texas), she registered her best outing of the week with 22 points, four steals and five three-pointers. Robertson also delivered 19 points and four assists in a narrow 68-65 loss to Bacone College (Okla.). JCC is now 2-6 in the RRAC and 3-9 on the season.
