DALLAS, TX: The Texas Wesleyan University women’s basketball team (8-7, 6-1 RRAC) took another important conference win on Thursday. The Lady Rams defeated Paul Quinn College 74-54 at Sprague Field House.
The game was tight throughout most of the first frame, but Texas Wesleyan closed the half on a 15-2 run, highlighted by a pair of Britney Helton 3-pointers, to take a 35-23 edge at halftime. Helton put up 15 points on 6-9 shooting from the field and a perfect 3-3 from long range in the first half.
In the second half, the Lady Rams poured it on. Texas Wesleyan built a 50-27 lead just five minutes into the second half. They shot 46% from the field in the frame and led by as many as 27 on their way to the 74-54 win.
Texas Wesleyan out shot Paul Quinn 41%-33% from the field and 56% (5-9)-15% from long range. The Lady Rams also outscored the Tigers 17-7 from the charity stripe.
Helton finished with a career-high 24 points in just 23 minutes of playing time. Shawndrika Courtney continued her solid play with 12 points. Hannah DeBose led the Lady Tigers with 15 points while Kuanesha Carr finished with 13.
The Lady Rams return to action on Monday, January 23, when they host Southwestern Assemblies of God University in RRAC action. That game is scheduled to begin at 5:30 p.m. and will be followed by a men’s game.
