STEERS SNAP LADY RAM WINNING STREAK
January 25, 2006

FORT WORTH, TX:  The Texas Wesleyan University women’s basketball team (9-8, 7-2 RRAC) hit a bump in their march through the Red River Athletic Conference on Wednesday.  The Texas College Lady Steers (8-7, 4-5) handed the Lady Rams a 63-56 loss, snapping Texas Wesleyan’s five-game winning streak.

In the first half, neither team led by more than six points.  With 34 seconds remaining in the frame, Britney Helton hit one-of-two free throws to bring the Rams within one at 29-28.  After a TC turnover, Stephanie Reder tipped her own shot into the bucket to give the Lady Rams a 30-29 lead at the break.

With the Steers leading 57-56 with 1:08 to play, Rams head coach Stacy Francis was tagged with her second technical foul.  Erica Delley converted the free throw to give the Steers a two-point edge.

Trailing 59-56 with 19 seconds remaining, the Lady Rams got the ball to Stephanie Reder who had hit two three-pointers in the contest, but her shot missed its mark and the Rams were forced to foul.  Texas College hit all four of its free throws in the final 13 seconds to seal the 63-56 win.

The Steers out rebounded the Rams 60-52, but 19 Texas College turnovers kept Texas Wesleyan in the game.

Shawndrika Courtney led the rams with 12 points.  Stephanie Reder finished with 10 of her own.  TC’s Erica Delley turned in a masterful performance with 18 points and an astounding 25 rebounds.

The Lady Rams return to action on Saturday, January 28, when they travel to Jarvis College.  That game is scheduled to begin at 5:30 p.m. and will be followed by a men’s game.
