FORT WORTH, TX:  The Texas Wesleyan University women’s basketball team was defeated, 72-59, by 9th ranked Houston Baptist University on Saturday.

The Lady Rams pushed the high powered Huskies throughout the first half.  A pair of free throws from Tiffany Hill with nine seconds remaining brought the Rams to within three at 33-30 at the break.

HBU started the second half with an 11-2 run to take a 46-32 lead.  However, the Lady Rams did not fold.  A pair of buckets from Pilar Pinkus quickly cut the deficit back to 10 points at 46-36.

Britney Helton hit a jumper with 7:09 on the clock to bring the score to 57-49.  The deficit remained in single digits as late as 2:16 to play when HBU led 66-57.  The Huskies then closed out the game on a 6-2 run for the 72-59 final.

Texas Wesleyan out rebounded Houston Baptist 48-37, but could not overcome 29 turnovers.

Mauri Johnson led the Rams by scoring all of her 15 points in the second half.  Five Huskies reached double figures in scoring, led by Jere’ Adams and Sherill Hadrick who each tossed in 15 points.
