ODESSA, TX: The Texas Wesleyan University women’s basketball team (12-14, 10-7 RRAC) was defeated 78-60 by UT-Permian Basin (14-13, 12-6) on Monday.
In January, the Rams took a 33-22 lead at halftime on their way to a 70-60 victory. On Monday, the Falcons out shot the Lady Rams 48% - 38% in the first half on their way to a 41-27 halftime lead.
From there, the Falcons were able to cruise to the win, outscoring the Rams 37-33 in the second half for the 70-68 final.
Texas Wesleyan was hampered by 22 turnovers, but made up for that by causing 20 UTPB turnovers. For the first time in their last four games, the Lady Rams were out rebounded 50-48.
Mauri Johnson continued her outstanding play by leading Texas Wesleyan with 15 points. Shawndrika Courtney just missed a third consecutive double-double with 8 points and 11 rebounds. Kim Chaffin led UTPB with 19 points while Dana Davis recorded 14 points and 17 rebounds.
The Lady Rams have just two home games remaining on the schedule beginning with Bacone College on Thursday, February 23. That game is scheduled to begin at 5:30 p.m. and will be followed by a men’s game.
