WACO, TX: For the second time this season, Texas Wesleyan University’s Shawndrika Courtney has been named Red River Athletic Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week. For the period of February 13-19, Courtney shared the honor with Texas A&M International University’s Jermina Tomlinson.
Courtney, a senior forward from Euless, TX, recorded 20.5 point and 18 rebounds per game as the Lady Rams split a pair of conference games last week. She posted double-doubles in both games with 24 points and 17 rebounds in a 54-52 nail-biter over Huston-Tillotson, and 17 points and 19 bards in a losing effort against TAMIU.
Courtney made 15-27 (55.6%) field goal attempts while blocking three shots and snaring four steals. After a loss at UT-Permian Basin last night, the Lady Rams are currently fifth in the conference at 10-7 with a 12-14 mark overall.
Tomlinson, a junior guard from San Antonio, TX, compiled 23.5 points per game in a pair of Lady Dustdevil wins as TAMIU strengthened its hold on second place in the conference. She had 29 points and six rebounds in an 86-75 win over Bacone College (Okla.), and she had 18 points and five boards to lead TAMIU past TWU, 93-83. TAMIU moved to 14-3 in conference and 18-9 overall.
Texas Wesleyan fans have just two more chances to catch Lady Rams in the Sid Richardson Center this season. They will return to action on Thursday, February 23, when they host Bacone College. That game, which is the final test before a senior night showdown with Paul Quinn College on Saturday, is scheduled to begin at 5:30 p.m. and will be followed by a men’s game.
