LADY RAMS GET BIG WIN
February 23, 2006

FORT WORTH, TX:  The Texas Wesleyan University women’s basketball team (13-14, 11-7 RRAC) snapped a five-game losing skid by knocking off the Red River Athletic Conference’s third ranked team.  The Lady Rams defeated Bacone College (19-9, 12-7) 64-56 in the Sid Richardson Center on Thursday.

Bacone controlled the game for much of the first half, leading by as many as ten points at 20-10.  However, Texas Wesleyan scored eight unanswered points to cut that lead down to two, and later tied the game at 27 when Tiffany Hill hit a layup as time expired in the first half.

In the second half, the Rams shot 43% while holding the Warriors to just 31% from the floor.  Texas Wesleyan also dominated the boards, taking a 33-16 margin in the period.

The Lady Rams took control midway through the period with an 8-2 run to take a 50-40 lead.  They expanded that lead to as many as 13 at 55-42 with three minutes to play.  The Warriors managed to cut that lead to single digits on three occasions in the final three minutes, but the Rams held on for the 64-56 win.

For the game, Texas Wesleyan won the battle of the boards 55-36, and out shot the Warriors 38%-32%.

Shawndrika Courtney recorded her third consecutive double-double with 14 points and 14 rebounds.  Pilar Pinkus also turned in a double-double with 13 points and 11 boards.  Stephanie Reder finished with 12 points.  Bacone’s Jessica Jenkins led all scorers with 20 points.

The Lady Rams will return to action on Saturday, February 25, when they host Paul Quinn College.  That game is scheduled to begin at 5:30 p.m. and will be preceded by Senior Day festivities, as four Lady Rams will play in their final home game.
