AUSTIN, TX: The Texas Wesleyan University softball team (0-6) was swept in a doubleheader against St. Edwards University on Saturday. The Hilltoppers took game one 7-0 and a rain-shortened game two 6-5.
In game one, St. Edwards scored two in the first, one in the second and two in the third and fourth. The Rams had no answer for SEU hurler Jennifer Bishop who tossed a one-hit shutout, striking out 8 in 7 innings of work.
Marie Stone (0-3) took the loss after allowing five runs (four earned) on eight hits in three innings of work.
In game two, the Rams found themselves in a 3-0 hole after the first inning, but they tied the game up with 3 runs in the second. Rachel Hampton led off with a double, and Elizabeth Brady reached on a walk. Both runners later scored on a pair of wild pitches. Alicia Wylie then ripped an RBI single, plating Becky Lamont.
The Hilltoppers went back on top in the bottom of the frame when Kristen Lozano scored on a triple from Mandy Phillips.
In the third inning, the Rams regained the lead, when Marie Stone and Tara Sharp led off with back-to-back home runs.
In the bottom of the fifth inning, SEU plated a pair of runs on a double from Melissa McSheffery to take a 6-5 lead. The game was called due to rain in the sixth inning.
Robin Becker earned the win after allowing no runs on two hits in three innings of work. Tara Sharp (0-1) took the loss after allowing six runs on eight hits in five innings.
Sharp led the Rams at the plate going 2-for-3 with a home run. Alicia Wylie was 2-for-2 with an RBI.
The Lady Rams will return to action on Tuesday, February 28, when they host Texas College at Sycamore Park. Game one is scheduled to begin at 1:00 p.m.
