FORT WORHT, TX:  The Texas Wesleyan University women’s basketball team (14-14, 12-7 RRAC) took a 54-43 win over Paul Quinn College (2-20, 2-17) in the Sid Richardson Center on Saturday.  Prior to the game, the Lady Rams honored four outstanding seniors.

The class of 2006 came to Wesleyan following a 1-24 season in 2001-02.  Over the last four years, Kori Yates, Tiffany Hill, Stephanie Reder, and Shawndrika Courtney have helped the Rams to an overall record of 69-53 and led the school to its first National Tournament Appearance last season.

The Rams were hot out of the gate as jumpers from Hill and Courtney and a trey from Reder led to a quick 7-1 lead.  Texas Wesleyan led by as many as nine at 26-17 on their way to a 29-23 edge at the break.

In the second half, the Lady Rams’ lead swelled to twelve at 38-26, but Paul Quinn chipped that margin down to four at 42-38 with 6:55 on the clock.  The Lady Rams responded to the Tigers’ push with 6-2 run to regain a 10-point lead at 50-40 with 4:21 to play.  From there they cruised to the 54-43 win.

Texas Wesleyan out rebounded Paul Quinn 47-36 and out shot the Tigers’ 39%-27%.

Coutney led the Lady Rams with 10 points, 7 rebounds and 2 blocked shots.  Reder finished with 10 points.  Hill pitched in 6 points, and 8 boards.  Paul Quinn was led by Andrea Anderson’s 10 points.

Texas Wesleyan will return to action on Monday, February 25, when they travel to Waxahachie, TX, to take on Southwestern Assemblies of God University in the season finale before the RRAC Tournament begins next week.  That game is scheduled to begin at 5:30 p.m. and will be followed by a men’s game.
