WACO, TX: Shea Harrison, of Texas Wesleyan University, was named Red River Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Week for the period of February 27-March 5. Huston-Tillotson University’s Jeremy Macklin was named Player of the Week for the same dates.
Harrison, a senior lefty from Arlington, Texas, tossed a one-hit shutout against traditional NAIA power Oklahoma City University in his only appearance last week. The Rams offense staked him to a 1-0 lead after scoring on a pair of singles in the first inning, and Harrison shut down the Stars from there. He just missed a perfect game, allowing only a second-inning single and striking out two hitters in seven innings of work. Harrison improved to 2-0 on the season and lowered his ERA to 0.34. After a doubleheader aplit with Huston-Tillotson on Monday, TWU has a record of 6-5.
Macklin, a freshman shortstop and designated hitter from Austin, Texas, was 8-for-18 at the plate and drove in 11 runs in a 3-2 week for HT. Most of Macklin’s production came in a 13-1 win in the first game of a three-game series with Paul Quinn College (Texas). In that game, he was 3-for-4 with a home run and six RBI. Macklin was 2-for-4 in the second game of that series with 2 RBI and he had a triple in the last game, an 11-8 HT win. On the week, he scored eight runs and stole three bases in three attempts. After a doubleheader split with TWU on Monday, HT is now 6-9 on the season.
