LADY RAMS ROMP AT OBU
March 11, 2006

SHAWNEE, OK:  The Texas Wesleyan University softball team (12-6) continued to roll along on Saturday as they took a convincing 18-2 win over the host team, Oklahoma Baptist, in the Oklahoma Baptist Classic.  They followed that contest with a 9-1 win over Peru State.

After totaling 64 hits in four games this weekend, the Rams have run their current winning streak to 12 consecutive games.

Against OBU, the Rams struck for two unearned runs in the first and scored four more on an RBI single from Marie Stone and a three-run homer by Tara Sharp, her eleventh of the young season.  That brought the score to 6-1.

In the fourth, the Rams broke the game wide open, sending 15 hitters to the plate and scoring 12 runs on eight hits.  The frame was highlighted by a grand slam from Rachel Hampton.

Meanwhile, Marie Stone (2-3) allowed just one unearned run on three hits in four innings pitched.  The Bison added one run in the fifth for the 18-2 final.  Stone and Ariel Raley each recorded three hits.  Hampton and Sharp combined for seven RBI.

Against Peru State, the Rams took a 2-0 lead in the second with an RBI double from Elizabeth Brady and an RBI single from Lindsey Molinar.  They pushed it to 6-0 with a run in the fourth and a three-run fifth inning highlighted by a two-run homer for Hampton.  After Peru struck for an unearned run in the bottom of the fifth, Devin Blew ripped a three-run homer in the seventh to account for the 9-1 final.

Rachel Lamont (3-1) earned the win by tossing five innings and allowing one unearned run on five hits while striking out two.  Alicia Wylie went 3-5 at the plate for the Rams while Blew added three RBI.

The Lady Rams return to action on Monday, when they travel to Austin, TX, to take on Concordia University.  Game one is scheduled to begin at 5:00 p.m.
