WACO, TX: Marie Stone of Texas Wesleyan University was selected as the Red River Athletic Conference Softball Player of the Week for March 6-12, and Jennifer Parker of University of Texas of the Permian Basin was named the RRAC Softball Pitcher of the Week for the same time frame.
Stone, a senior pitcher and first baseman from Pittsburg, TX, led TWU to a 6-0 week including four wins in the Oklahoma Baptist University Tournament. Stone connected for 14 hits in 23 at-bats (.609) with 12 runs scored and nine RBIs. She had three hits in four of those games including a 3-for-4 performance with a home run and three RBIs in a 10-7 win over Culver-Stockton College (Mo.). She also posted a 3-for-3 game with four runs scored in an 18-2 victory over OBU. The Lady Rams have won 12-in-a-row and have moved to 12-6 on the season. Parker, a senior pitcher from Beaumont, TX, tossed a complete game shutout against the NAIA’s sixth-ranked team, Houston Baptist University, as UTPB earned its first win ever against HBU. Parker surrendered only five hits and a walk in seven innings of work with one strikeout to her credit. She also drove in the first run of the game en route to a 3-0 win for the Lady Falcons. UTPB is now 10-4 on the season. |
