RED HOT RAMS CONTINUE TO WIN:

SHARP SETS SCHOOL RECORD FOR HOMERS
March 14, 2006

AUSTIN, TX:  The Texas Wesleyan softball team (14-6) ran its current winning streak to 14 games with a doubleheader sweep of Concordia University on Tuesday.  The Lady Rams took game on 19-10 and won the nightcap 9-4.  Senior, Tara Sharp cracked four home runs on the day and became Texas Wesleyan’s single season home run record holder at 15 just twenty games into the season.

In game one, the Rams pounded out 25 hits including five home runs.  Texas Wesleyan led 8-7 after three innings, but the Rams continued to pound the ball, scoring multiple runs in every inning on their way to the 19-10 win.

Tara Sharp went 3-6 with two runs scored, five RBI, and two home runs.  Marie Stone was 3-6 with four runs, four RBI, and a home run, and Rachel Hampton went 4-5 with two runs, an RBI, and a homer.  Ariel Raley added three hits and three RBI while Brooke McNabb recorded four hits including a home run.

Michelle Jones improved to 4-0 with the win, while Tara Sharp earned her first save of the year.

In game two, the Rams led 5-1 entering the bottom of the fifth, but Concordia plated three runs to pull within one.

Texas Wesleyan responded in the top of the sixth by scoring four runs on back-to-back-to-back home runs from Raley, Stone, and Sharp, and cruised to the 9-4 win from there.  For Stone it was her third home run of the day.

For Sharp it was her fourth of the day and 15th of the season which is the highest total in all of the NAIA this season and a single season Texas Wesleyan record.  The school record was 11 held by Stacey Head (1999).  She is also just four shy of Monica Barilleaux’s career record of 24 (2000-03).

Devin Blew tossed all seven innings and allowed four runs (three earned) while striking out five to improve to 3-1 on the season.

Texas Wesleyan will return to action on Sunday, when they host Hastings College at Sycamore Park.  Game one is scheduled to begin at 12:00 p.m.
