FORT WORTH, TX: The Texas Wesleyan softball team (22-8, 10-0 RRAC), ranked 17th in the nation, continued its current tear by sweeping UT-Permian Basin (10-10, 7-9) with scores of 4-1 and 6-3 at Sycamore Park on Friday. Texas Wesleyan has now won 22 of their last 24 games.
In game one, the Rams struck in the first inning with RBI singles from Tara Sharp and Rachel Hampton. The Falcons responded in the third with an RBI double from Sasha Waggoner.
In the sixth, Jazmine Boss drove in a pair with a base hit to cap the scoring at 4-1.
Rachel Lamont improved to 6-2 by tossing all seven innings and allowing just one run on five hits while striking out six.
In game two, the Rams scored an unearned run in the first only to see the Falcons tie the game with a home run from Kristi Tosi in the second.
Texas Wesleyan scored again in the fourth courtesy of Marie Stone’s 13th homer of the year, but UTPB took a 3-2 lead with RBI singles from Holly Hicks and Nikki Baez in the fifth.
In the bottom of the frame, the Rams put the game away with a pair of two run homers including freshman Jazmine Boss’ first collegiate home run and a shot off the bat of Ariel Raley.
Devin Blew worked five and allowed three runs (one earned) on six hits while striking out four to improve to 7-1 on the year. Michelle Jones picked up her first save of the year with two scoreless innings.
Boss capped an outstanding day with a 2-4 for performance. On the day, she had three hits and four RBI.
The Lady Rams return to action on Sunday when they travel to Cedar Hill, TX, to take on Northwood University in an RRAC doubleheader. Game one is scheduled to begin at 2:00 p.m.
